Women's Equality Day
According to the calendar (and social media), there is a holiday for everything: I barely had time to recover from National Raspberry Cream Pie Day before National Mustard Day was upon us. Fortunately, I could work off those extra treats by celebrating National Mountain Climbing Day and, if I was still feeling groggy, blame my exhaustion on International Hangover Day. And that was the first week of August alone! But there is one upcoming holiday that I can truly get behind: Women’s Equality Day.
Women’s Equality Day celebrates the anniversary of the adoption of the 19th Amendment to the United States’ Constitution on August 26, 1920.
The 19th Amendment is everything: It gave women the right to vote for the first time, empowering us with a voice to express opinions and beliefs.
Since that day, we have made steps forward and shattered glass ceilings.
Although some days it may seem like we are moving backwards, I am still thankful for and amazed by the determination and perseverance that has ensured consistent -- if slow -- progress. As a single mom, a female entrepreneur, and a "girl boss" in a traditionally male-dominated field of telecommunications, I am constantly grateful for those who came before me, and they inspire me to empower my employees, who are part of an all-female team, and to teach my two sons about equality and the true meaning of feminism.
So take a quick break in between National Kiss And Make Up Day on the 25th and August 28th's Race Your Mouse Day to celebrate National Women’s Equality Day this coming Sunday! We have a few specials and promos up on the site to help you feel festive!
